When Casey stands in the shadows to make the kill for Chuck, and then allows him to take the credit for it, it was a reference to The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, as it was exactly what John Wayne’s character did for Jimmy Stewart’s character.
When Chuck’s recording for his spy mission self destructs after playing once is a reference to the television series Mission Impossible, where agents receive assignments through a tape recording which also self destructs after being played.
Anatoli’s thug is named after Ivan Drago, the Russian super-boxer played by Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV.
